In late 1993, I received a call from Anne Telford of Communication Arts. She asked to speak with me and my assistant, Wayne Parent - who you see in this photo, would not let her speak to me because I was shooting. She said, I think he is going to want to take this call. CA had decided to do a Feature Article on my work for the May/June 1994 issue. I was honoured and flattered as I was one of the first, if not the first Canadian photographer to be given a feature article.
This photograph was the lead in that article. It was an image I had created for Digital News, all in camera on 4x5 film, about how ideas come to mind. I was thinking of Newton's Apple falling on his head.
Later that year, I had received a call from the New York Art Director's Club, saying that they were doing a book on digital photography - artists who work with computers. They had chosen 13 photographers and I was to be one of them. I said, "I am honoured, but I didn't make any of those photographs with a computer, they were all done - In Camera." After a long silence she said, "Oh, go on.". I said, I would have to decline.....
